PALIGSAYAHAN 2011
By Sis Beth A. Magpantay
The annual gathering of BCF family to stretch some muscles and have some fun was held on 17 December 2011 at Al Raja auditorium. Some |
|
friends of BCF members were also invited to take part.
The event was graced with more than 400 people, some of whom came as early as 6:00am just to grab sure of a free shirt! The teams were divided into four colors: Green led by Ptrs Butch Estacio, Ninoy dela Cruz and Amor Ragunton; Yellow led by Ptrs Vic Magpantay and Romy Salvante, Purple led by Ptrs Alan Clavecilla, Freddie Cudiamat and Bert Veras; and Red led by Ptrs Joey Manuel, Poe Burlat and Pablo Pacudan. The teams correspond to the shirts distributed to everyone including the kids. The sportsfest committee members wore black shirts.
The day started at 8:00am after each team was allotted some minutes to practice their cheering and prepare their banner. The parade of colors immediately started, followed by the opening prayer of Ptr Vic Magpantay. A number of songs were led by Sis Alona Jimenez.
Bro John Villapando gave the welcome remarks followed by some stretching exercises by Ptr Alan Clavecilla. The flexing of muscles invigorated the members for more physical activities during the occasion.
The cheering competition by each team was a source of fun and excitement after a tedious stretching. Then the games proper began with four parlor games, namely: obstacle race, shoot the straw, balloon wars and i-pingpong. Children were also included in some of the parlor games.
Lunch and snacks were sold outside the auditorium, catered by some brethren. Water, coffee and asado roll were provided free by the church.
The Basketball game rejuvenated the men while some ladies were cheering them up to score more points. Volleyball game was played by both men and women. Elimination of teams for both basketball and volleyball was done in the outdoor court to minimize the time. Even the young people were full of energy to participate.
Darts and table tennis simultaneously took place, being played by people earlier assigned by their team leaders. Several genius minds joined the board games (i.e., chess, scrabble and word factory).
This year a “Special Award for Endurance” was given to the team whose members “endured till the end” of the day. It was won by the Purple team, whose number of members remained the same from the beginning till the end of the games.
The overall winners were Purple team (1st), Red team (2nd), Yellow team (3rd) and Green team (4th). Each team received two hampers of goodies which were equally distributed to everyone. The day was ended with picture taking after the closing prayer by Ptr Butch Estacio.
